head of the Design Centre of Carrozzeria Bertone; designed the Alfa Romeo

manufacturing sector) and, as head of the Research and Styling Division, has
designed over 60 cars, 33 of which have been mass-produced; 1969, designed an
alternative to the traditional Volkswagen "beetle"; other models:
Golf/Rabbit, and Maserati Quattroporte (1974), BMW M1 (1978), Lancia Delta
(1979), Fiat Panda (1980), Fiat Uno (1983), Fiat Punto (1993); from 1970,
involved in industrial design and has produced articles for such firms as Agusta,
Bontempi, Candy, Necchi, Parker, Seiko and Tecno; 1982, with the Giugiaro
trademark, entered the world of men's fashion; 1995, inaugurated an exhibition
of his designs, San Francisco, and devised the "City Image" project
for Turin; at present, chmn. Italdesign S.p.A.; founder and chmn. Giugiaro
